The Celebrity Wedding Remix

Mariah Carey’s first wedding in 1993 to record exec Tommy Mottola was the epitome of a New York fairytale. Carey was the hottest artist out - young, beautiful and wide-eyed, Mottola the millionaire music man who changed her life - they later divorced, but THE BRIDAL LEWK, let’s talk about that.

Anyone who is aware of Carey’s personal style or has witnessed her iconic episode of MTV Cribs, knows she lives for glamour (remember the gym workout in 4 inch stilettos moment?) Glamour meshed with a Cinderella-style fantasy is how to describe her ultra 90s Vera Wang wedding gown. Rumoured to be inspired by Princess Di’s bridal look, Carey went all out. The satin ballgown with a serious train and an off-the-shoulder puff sleeve, ensured Carey was indeed a vision. Even the substantial diamond tiara could not compete with that dress - and a good dress deserves a remix, so here’s The Alternative version.

THE DRESS

Danielle Frankel pleated gown £7059

This may not be a satin ballgown à la Mariah, but the tulle overskirt gives a real fairytale feel, whilst the off-the-shoulder neckline with the more modern draped sleeve is bang on. The pop diva would certainly approve.

THE TIARA

Alessandra Rich crystal & pearl headband £335

Diamonds (ok, crystals) and pearls are appropriate for a Mariah Carey inspired bride, so this pretty tiara will come in handy. As Alessandra Rich’s headpiece is a lot less showy than Mariah’s version, feel free to go big on the hair.

THE SHOES

Manolo Blahnik satin mules £925

Underneath her huge Vera Wang ballgown we have on very good authority that Ms Carey wore some satin and crystal embellished court heels from Vanessa Noel. A satin shoe is rarely approved at The Alternative…unless they’re Manolo’s, these are appropriately hot.
